Gen Bajwa telephones PM Abbasi, calls for handling Islamabad dharna peacefully

RAWALPINDI:  Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has telephoned Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi,  military spokesman  said on Saturday.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor  posted a brief statement on Twitter, saying the army chief during his telephonic conversation with the prime minister “suggested to handle Islamabad dharna peacefully”.

The army chief advised both government and the protesters to avoid from violence as it is not in national interest  and cohesion,

A policeman has been  martyred  and over 100 people  including security officials and  protesters have been injured as forces moved to disperse  the sit-in that has paralyzed Islamabad for 20 days.
